Facelift Facts Part 3 – Types of facelifts
Once you and your doctor have determined that you are a good candidate for a facelift you must decide which type of facelift fits best with what you hope to accomplish through your surgery. There are more invasive and less invasive facelift techniques that will cause your results and length of recovery to vary.
The main types of facelifts are –
- Mid face lift
The mid face lift aims to correct signs of aging in the cheeks and surrounding areas. Often, mid face lifts are done using a less invasive endoscopic technique and a small incision that is hidden behind the hairline. The mid face lift pulls skin near the cheeks more vertically than a traditional facelift, and the recovery period for a mid face lift is also generally shorter. - Mini lift
A mini lift is often used for patients who have just begun to show signs of aging and sagging in their face and neck. The process for a mini lift is very similar to a traditional facelift, however it does not go as deep into the muscle tissue of the face. Because of this, the recovery time following a mini lift is shorter, and the results are less pronounced. - Facelift
A facelift reduces sagging, wrinkles, and other signs of aging on the face through small incisions that are hidden in the hairline, behind the ears, or under the chin. By pulling the skin more tightly around the facial muscles, doctors can make skin appear 10-15 years younger. - Neck lift
A neck lift uses the same techniques as a traditional facelift, but focuses more on sagging in the neck and lower face, as well as regaining a more defined jaw line. - Liquid facelift
A liquid facelift is a nonsurgical procedure and refers the process of injecting a patient’s face with dermal fillers or muscle relaxers such as Juvéderm or Botox. Liquid facelifts are a great alternative to traditional facelifts for people who are still in the early stages of aging and may not need drastic results. The process is cheaper and less invasive than surgical facelifts, however the results are not permanent and the treatment must be repeated in a year or two.
