It’s said that the eyes are the window to the soul — but drooping upper eyelids and baggy, under-eye pouches can make a person look constantly tired and sad. Eyelid surgery creates a refreshed, vibrant and youthful appearance by removing sagging, excess skin, tightening loose muscle and sculpting fat in the upper and lower eyelids.

Tailoring to each patient’s needs, Louisville Plastic Surgery uses a variety of eyelid procedures to restore the original shape of a patient’s eye and avoids even subtle changes to the eye’s natural shape. In advanced eyelid aging, Dr. O’Daniel preforms mid-face rejuvenation procedures, which are aimed at restoring the volume and position of the sagging cheek tissue below the eyelid.

Typically, small incisions are made behind the ears and under the chin to remove excess fat, tighten the loose muscles and skin. Neck lift procedures are typically performed on an outpatient basis, with mild sedation.

Fat injections restore volume. Utilizing the patient’s own fat, microinjections are used to restore lost volume in the cheeks, around the eye, and mouth. There is the additional “stem-cell”-like affect seen with reduction of wrinkles, improved skin quality, and maintenance of the fat replacement.

Eyelid surgery is a very demanding surgery that unfortunately frequently results in the eyes looking “done.” Over-resection of skin, muscle and fat leaves the eyes hollow, round and sunken. There can often be an associated functional issue such as dryness and irritation.

Sometimes eyelids need to be corrected with a surgical procedure to “re-suspend” the eyelid to its natural position. Restoring eyelids to a more normal appearance can often be achieved by adding volume to the eyelids with fillers such as Restylane or fat.

Forehead creases, deep vertical furrows and drooping brows that hood the eyes can make a person appear angry, sad or tired. A brow lift (forehead lift) procedure minimizes these effects of aging, restoring a relaxed, refreshed and more youthful visage.

In this procedure, Dr. O’Daniel uses an endoscopic procedure to remove or alter the muscles and tissues that cause the furrowed and drooping brow. The goal is to create a smooth forehead, raise the tail of the eyebrows and minimize frown lines, reshaping a youthful brow without an over-elevation.

Reposition Protruding Ears

An otoplasty can improve the overall appearance of the face and head by repositioning protruding ears closer to the head, and reducing disproportionately large ears to be in balance with the rest of the face. Properly positioned ears allow the person to wear a wider range of hairstyles comfortably.

Ear tucks may be performed on children as young as six, before they enter school, to keep them from being subjected to cruel classmate teasing.
