Dr. O’Daniel is a pioneer of the modern neck lift.
We all want to look and feel our best. A neck lift offers a surgical way to optimize the jawline and contours of your neck to regain youthful contours in the face and neck. There are few procedures that can achieve such a dramatic change in your profile and appearance.
A neck lift is a surgical procedure that improves the obtuse neck and diminishes visible signs of aging in the jawline and neck. A procedure like this can treat excess fat and skin in the lower face that can creates jowls, excess fatty deposits under the chin, loose neck skin and muscle banding in the neck, which can create abnormal contours.
The skin on your face may still look soft and smooth but if the neck area doesn’t match the rest of your appearance, a neck lift may be a good solution.
If you are considering a neck lift, you should fully explore your options prior to any procedure surgical or non-surgical to ensure that your expectations are fully realistic.
How To Prepare for Neck Lift Surgery
Neck lift surgery is a safe procedure, but it is still a major surgery. With this in mind, you will need to prepare your body for the procedure as you would any other type of surgery. Alcohol, excessively fatty and sugary foods, and over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin and ibuprofen should be avoided. If you are a smoker, you will need to prepare for not smoking in the weeks before and after the surgery, as tobacco can interfere with the healing process. Smoking can also cause premature aging of the skin, so refraining from smoking altogether is a great way to keep your neck and face looking youthful.
You will need to attend a series of appointments with your surgeon before and after the procedure to ensure that your necklift outcome is optimized.
What is the procedure?
Neck lift surgery offers an easy way to completely transform the look of your facial area, and give you back your youthful appearance. By taking excess skin and fat away from the neck area and tightening the muscles and skin your face will appear thinner and younger looking. The procedure itself is very safe, and one of the most reliable in plastic surgery. Advances in surgery over recent years have meant that the surgery can now be performed with minimal incision and scarring for the patient.
The procedure will generally last between two and three hours. Our patients require only local anesthesia combined with sedation this will be discussed at length with Dr. O’Daniel prior to the procedure.
Your surgeon will perform neck lift surgery using extremely small incisions behind the ears and under the chin. Through these incisions, excess fat is removed; muscles may be reduced and tightened. Once the underlying contours are created, the skin will be redraped and pulled taut.
How long will it take to recover after the procedure?
As with any surgical procedure, the exact recovery time after a neck lift will depend on the individual. We usually advise that patients return to normal daily activities within 2 weeks after surgery, though patients are typically back in the public eye after only one week. Expect your neck to feel tight for a few weeks.
What neck lift surgery can’t do
As amazing as the results from your neck lift surgery can be, please keep in mind that as a restorative surgery, a neck lift will not change your fundamental appearance and cannot stop the aging process.
A full neck lift is a surgical procedure, and non-surgical treatments will not be able to achieve the same results. They may, however, help to keep your skin healthy appearing and maintain a youthful appearance longer.
