What is Sculptra®?

Sculptra® is an FDA-approved dermal injection that gradually replaces lost collagen. Collagen is lost during the aging process. Replacing lost collagen helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, hollow areas, and bony areas of your face. This product is made of a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid.

How Does Sculptra® Work?

Sculptra® works by stimulates collagen production. Collagen is a protein that supports the structure of the skin. Collagen also supports the functions of hyaluronic acid and elastin to make skin more moisturized and firmer. By the age of 40, many individuals have already lost 20% of their natural collagen. What Are the Steps of The Procedure?

The first step is scheduling a consultation. Following the consultation an appointment for the procedure will be made. Prior to the procedure, a topical anesthetic may be applied to eliminate any discomfort during the injections, but it is not required. Final results will gradually begin to appear over the course of a few weeks. Often, injections are repeated around three times over the course of a few months for optimal results.

In What Areas is Sculptra® Used?

There are many areas Sculptra® can be used to treat. The most common areas are marionette lines, chin wrinkles, and smile lines. What To Expect After treatment?

After receiving Sculptra® injections, you can return to your normal daily activities. It is recommended that you ice the treated areas after treatment and massage the areas multiple times a day for a few days after receiving injections. You can wear makeup immediately after treatment. You should avoid facials for two weeks following the procedure.

There may be some bruising, tenderness or swelling in the treated areas. A few days following the injections, any swelling or plumpness from the initial injection will subside. Then, it will take a few weeks for visible results to appear. Dr. O’Daniel will schedule a follow- up appointment with you a few weeks after initial injections.

Why Sculptra® Instead of Juvederm®?

Sculptra® is not a filler like Juvederm®, it is a collagen stimulator. It may take multiple sessions and a few weeks to see significant results from Sculptra® because the effects are gradual and subtle. Juvederm is a hyaluronic gel that gives immediate results. Although both are quality products, the recommended treatment depends on the look you want to achieve.
